Grace & Truth Print Series (2011 – 2013)

Produced over a 2-year period, the Grace & Truth print series has a central theme around finding the true self, elegance and beauty of form, manner and motion. This series was the firs set of printmaking undertaken.

A central idea that formed the basis of early print was found in a pencil drawing by Matisse as part of his planning works for the Chapel of the Rosary at Vence. The ‘Vera Icon’ or true image represented Saint Veronica’s veil as part of the sixth station of the cross. The imagery was first reproduced as a simple solar plate and extended across a range of ideas that included word pictures produced from timber typography and ballet images inspired by the Ballets Russes.
